A lot of this stuff isn't too difficult to do on your own, at the same time, some of these features, like the book plugin that displays paper with text on it, is so common with most RPGs, I don't understand why it took them this long to include it. This version comes with some nice starter plugins, which is something I honestly feel like should have been included in previous versions. I had managed to get close to compacting it down to simply one event, but with how the whole events tabs system operates, the last tab always gets priority and as a result will undercut any of those other tabs, which will just simply break what you intended. Every room has a light switch and at least one light source. For example, I was working on a lighting system for inside buildings. That is another complaint I have, the events system is robust, but as you start to try and push it towards it's limits, you really expose just how weak it can be in places. It was taking me forever to figure out why some of my stuff wasn't working the way I wanted it to. Like, I was used to having a branching path already have the 'else's put in there, but now instead you have to click a little box.

Honestly, it did to a certain extent, but at the same time, they change things just enough that all it is, is an inconvenience.

You are making my life harder than what it needs to be.Ĭoming from VX Ace, I was hoping that what I had learned from using that software would be helpful in learning MV. Because of how the engine works, I am either going to have to place an event, tile by tile for the entirety of the house or show the image on the screen, which means every time the player enters or exits that map there's gonna have to be this whole thing, when I should BE ABLE TO JUST SELECT AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE AS I WANT. Why in the hell won't you just let me select what I want for the size? I have pre-built houses that I want to use that can be upgraded later on to look better. But even after you figure out how this works, you're still limited to a 3X3 selection of 48X48. You can't just select a resource and then select what you want, how the selection process works depends on the size and shape of the file being used, as well as the actual file name.

Speaking of frustrating, the limitations on sprite sizes is still here and stuff very frustrating. This continues to be a point of contention for me, an issue I find very frustrating. Tiles are still limited to the extent that you can only use so many per map and the assets need to be the engine's expected size or it won't work correctly, so you can't really expand on tiles as much as trying to optimize your space. I don't trust software developers to have our best interests at heart. Why? I am sure there's probably a technical reason for it, but it makes me wonder if it wasn't at least partially to get people to buy all new resources from them. They changed the size of the tiles, which have almost always been an industry standard of 32X32 and changed it to 48X48.

I appreciate the fact that they increased the number of layers we can have on a map now, that was a limitation in VX Ace, once that pissed me off enough that this upgrade alone may keep my attention on MV more than what I'd like.

As it turns out the resources I purchased over at Itch were compatible with RPG Maker VX Ace and MV, so I didn't need to have to worry about that. RPG Maker MV, where in the Hell do I even begin? I recently acquired this software after realizing there may be features in MV that I may want to take advantage of for my current project.
